Marsya Noor Syakira from SMA Regina Caeli Wins The Storytelling Competition at Meraki 3.0

Reporter: Azaeel Benaya Putra (Grade 10)

On Monday, November 4th, 2024, SMA Regina Caeli hosted the final event in its series of the competitions—Storytelling. The event, which began at 13:00 WIB, took place in the Grade 12 Aristotle classroom and featured five talented participants. The competition was judged by two judges, Margare
tha Cristianti Taehutu and Maria Margareta Denok Patmasari.

A Retelling of a Classic

The first performance came from Fadia Patricia Ferdinansyah, a student from SMAN 15 Bekasi, who retold the well-known Indonesian story “Sangkuriang”. The tale revolves around Sangkuriang, who unknowingly falls in love with his mother, Dayang Sumbi. When Sangkuriang proposes marriage, Dayang Sumbi recognizes him by a distinctive scar on his head. Though the story was brief, Fadia’s delivery was emotionally powerful, helping the audience easily grasp the moral of the story.

Unknown Dangers

Putri Anjani, a student from SMA Yadika 11 Jatirangga, performed the classic fairytale “Little Red Riding Hood”. In her retelling, Little Red Riding Hood ventures into the woods, unaware of the dangers ahead. After a brief encounter with a wolf, she finds that the wolf has taken the place of her grandmother. A hunter arrives just in time to save them, and the two live happily ever after. Putri’s delivery was excellent, showing great emotional expression and flawless delivery, with no visible signs of nervousness.

A Folktale From Another Land

Nadinendra Salwaindah, also from SMA Yadika 11 Jatirangga, shared a Chinese folktale about a young girl from a family with no love. The story centers on her decision to escape to the city in search of a better life. Along the way, she meets a goddess who shows her the love and care she never experienced at home. However, it turns out to be a dream, and the girl’s life becomes brighter and more joyful after the experience. Nadinendra’s performance was marked by deep emotion, a fitting costume, and a clear moral that resonated with the audience.

A Disagreement Leading to Tragedy

Marsya Noor Syakira from SMA Regina Caeli gave the fourth performance, telling the tragic story of The Seven Princesses. A queen with seven daughters had one daughter who was the most beautiful—the youngest. When a prince falls in love with her, the kingdom's tradition dictates that the eldest daughter must marry first, leading to a conflict. The prince, enraged, threatens war, and the queen hides her daughters in a cave. The war eventually ends, but when the cave is opened, the queen finds the bodies of her daughters, starved to death. Marsya’s performance was both passionate and confident. She nailed her delivery, made every word count, and used minimal yet effective props to heighten the emotional impact of the story. Her costume was also perfectly suited to the tale.

The Best is Given by God

The final performance came from Elpresent Ansela Elly of SMP Regina Caeli, who presented The Legend of Nyi Roro Kidul. The story tells of Dewi Karita, a princess cursed by a wizard, which causes her beauty to transform into a deformity. Cast out by her father, she wanders until she encounters a beautiful landscape where, after seven days and nights, she finds healing and a return to her original beauty. From then on, she is known as Nyi Roro Kidul, the powerful queen of the Southern Sea. Ansela’s delivery was stellar, emphasizing the moral of the story—how God always has the best for us. Her emotional performance and well-chosen costume contributed to the strong impact of her storytelling.

As the competition came to a close, all participants gathered for a photo with the judges. They congratulated each other for their dedication and hard work leading up to the event. Despite presenting different stories, each participant brought their own unique style and moral to the stage. Marsya Noor Syakira’s captivating performance earned her the top spot in the competition, marking a memorable conclusion to the storytelling series. Congratulations, Marsya!
